Other Worlds

Fletch - Well, our entries have been less lately because we have been far from civilization fr awhile. We werer hidden away in Grand Manan, which is park of New Brunswick, Canada but is an island off the coast of Maine. It was incredibly isolated there and absolutely gorgeous. The cabin we stayed in was on cliffs overlooking the Bay of Fundy, infamous for it's rapid changing tides. Near the cabin a waterfall poured over the cliff and into the sea, the constant mists and fogs created a very secluded, mystical kinda place. It was very enjoyable. The cabin sits about 2 miles from any road, they actually had to bring us in via ATV, which was a fun experience in itself.

The cabin was fairly small, perfect for the two of us. We constantly had the small firestove burning hot, since it probably didn't break 50 degrees while we were there, and the sun was too insecure to come out. A ladder and small walkway brought us to our bed in the loft. Just above the head of the bed was a window we kept open at night, and we fell asleep to the sound of the ocean each night. It was perfect.

We saw no one until we hiked to the lighthouse at the south end of the island. There was a fog horn there that blasted so loud we could clearly hear it at the cabin, well over 2 miles away. To stand next to the horn was deafaning, there was even a sign there that warned of ear damage. The path that led us to the lighthouse ran along the cliffs. Constant cliffs, with sharp ridges plummeting into the water and mist obscuring the next point. It felt like another world, like Middle Earth of some place. We stopped at Hay Point along the way which was absolutely astounding. The past led us down closer to the water, and the closer we got, the less trees there were. Appropriately, there were very few trees on the wide point, just hay-like grass. A few trees popped us and the mist was ever present, it really gave us that feeling that we were somewhere else.

Anyway, enough about Grand Manan, right now we are in North Conway, NH. The sun is finally out. It has been a week since we last saw it. It is so gorgeous here. As we were driving in and saw the larger mountains for the fist time my heart sorta fluttered. I love the ocean, and the lowlans, but nothing quite gets me like the high rugged mounaints. Mountains that hide their peaks from you in the clouds. I love that. Don't get me wrong, I would go back to the other places in a heartbeat, but not before I'm done here.

Today we are just hanging out here, catching up with the world, and letting the rocks dry out. Tomorrow, and possibly the following days we plan on hitting some cliffs somewhere. There it is, and here we are.

Megs- Well I was thinking of what I should add to this post... i've decided it is the fact that I found the game in which I woop Fletch.. monopoly... ok so chess i am a garunteed looser.. buut alas monopoly and me... mm hmm
Grand Manan was awesome. God was deffinately watching over us because we had some car troubles getting out of there on Sunday. Our check engine light still remains on, but the car is doing fine... what a blesssing. It wouldn't have been so great to get stuck in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and no people.
An interesting note about Natures Window- (where we stayed) was that the toilet was a composting one.. and the cabin all solar and wind powered.. and the toilet.. well nice.. throw in some peat moss and walaa.. but either we are realllly stinky or something cuz after a few days we couldn't rid that smell.. infact we are still smelling it at random times in NH... it has followed us.
We drove the Kancamungus highway today and saw some spectacular view with clouds and mountains. And last night when we arrived at our new home, the owners decided to up grade us for free to a larger cottage with a king size bed...
now i've decided something about king size beds... too much space.. too far apart.. what good does that do a newly wed couple to snuggle.. at any rate it was an amazing surprise and supppper generous.
O yes.. and we had Flatbread's pizza last night. Positively the best pizza anywhere and a tradition of ours when in NH. We love it here, its kind of a home away from home.. but slightly more adventursome.

Keep us in your prayers. We've had an amazing time.. but the enemy is always trying to manuver and come in... we've battled.. and its been good...:)
